The software, called PyMusique, allows people to copy songs bought through the iTunes site onto music players other than iPods. Apple's DRM is only added to songs at the last moment, so the software short-circuits this part of the download process.
I don't have an iPod but they look incredibly cool. What I don't understand is why someone would want to bypass using an iPod? If you are going to pay that much to download from iTunes you might as well invest in something Apple supports. Plus if you have another player *cough* you might as well *cough* illeg *cough* ally download the music. *cough* Ah hem... Sorry I must be coming down with some kind of cold.
